To be able to do a good performance of a Kata don't means to mastering the specialities of the Kata. Each   Kata   (Kushanku)   or   group   of   Kata   (Jion,   Jiin,   Jitte)   includes   a   complete   fighting   system.   And   beside   the   knowledge   of   the Bunkai   it   needs   years   of   training   for   to   mastering   this   system.   In   the   present   time,   where   the   necessary   for   self   defense   isn't   as important   as   it   was   in   former   times,   when   the   principles   and   secrets   of   the   Martial   Arts   was   developed   and   handed   down   hidden   in the Kata, the training of a Kata is not to compare with the training in former times. It   can   be   a   nice   thing   to   learn   the   movements   of   many   Kata.   But   not   all   of   them   need   to   be   exersiced   or   masterd.   And   not   each   Kata is a likely one for each Karateka. Some will be loved some will be hated. But in a list from over 70 Kata there must be something to find for everybody. It's   not   a   wrong   way   to   learn   a   lot   of   Kata.   But   mastering   a   lot   of   Kata   is   a   different   thing.   For   mastering   a   Kata   there   must   be   a decision for just a view or one. According   to   some   grandmaster   of   Karate   it   needs   3   to   5   years   for   to   mastering   a   Kata,   in   the   case   the   student   has   a   Dan-Level. And for Kushanku say speak about 10 years. In fact it is possible to do a Kata 40 years, and be able to find new details to improve the performace or a better understanding. to master a Kata has nothing to do with speed, power or visual perfect looking techniques.
