For me, water and karate aren't just photogenic. Why? Because the properties of water are as versatile as karate can be. For these photos, however, more than just the watery environment was necessary. An 8-kg weight belt provided the necessary buoyancy. A dive guide from the safari boat took over the air supply, which meant he would give me air on signal and then quickly dive out of the frame. My friend and diving partner, Edmund Riedel, acted as photographer. The action took place at depths between 6 and 10 meters and lasted about 20 minutes.
